Selecting a Major:
Courses and Programs
BRTC has several degrees, certificates, and
programs to choose from. In order to expedite graduation and save
money, it is important for students to determine their major before
getting too far into their education.
Associate of Arts (AA)
The Associate of Arts degree is offered for those students wishing to
complete the first two years, or the general education requirements, of a
Baccalaureate program. Once completed, students with an AA have
completed the general requirements for most degrees. If desired,
students may also choose an area of emphasis in one of the following
areas:
Associate of Arts in Teaching (AAT)
The Associate of Arts degree is available to those students interested
in teaching. Once completed, students with an AAT are better
prepared for entering a teacher education program in P-4, Middle-School
Math/Science or Middle-School Language Arts/Social Sciences at a four-year
institution.
Associate of Applied Science (AAS)
The Associate of Applied Science degree is offered for those students
wishing to complete an associate's degree before beginning a career.
This degree is not designed to be transferred to a four-year college
although many of the courses in the AAS will transfer.
Technical Certificates
Technical certificate programs are organized for students who wish to
begin a career after completion of the program. Some courses in the
technical certificate programs can be applied toward an Associate's
degree.
Certificate of Proficiency
Certificates of proficiency programs are 1-semester programs that
concentrate on one technical area.
